One of the joys of sea kayaking in Maine is taking advantage of the numerous islands that allow camping (e.g., the Maine Island Trail). You may have never kayak camped on an island, you may need a refresher on what to pack or how to pack your kayak, or you may be a seasoned voyageur. All are welcome.

We’ll do a simple overnighter on Whaleboat Island. After launching from Lookout Point (see photo), we’ll paddle about 5 miles to Whaleboat then pitch our tents in the meadow near the middle of the island. After a supper of whatever we each bring, we’ll watch the sunset (again, see photo). Next morning we’ll eat, strike camp and make our way back to Lookout by noon.

To help prepare we’ll have a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. This is your chance to ask any questions or offer advice. Attendance is optional. I’ll message registrants with the link.

This trip is weather dependent. I have no great need to camp in a downpour or in howling wind. So if you register, stay alert for possible cancellation.
