Unlock the dynamic power of moving water in sea kayaking in currents, a skills-focused course designed to help paddlers confidently navigate tidal flows, river mouths, eddies, and constricted channels. This class blends theory and on-water practice to develop the techniques and judgment necessary to handle current-driven environments safely and efficiently.
Participants will learn to:
Read water movement and identify features such as eddies, eddy lines, boils, and standing waves
Use ferries, peel-outs, and eddy turns to maneuver with control and precision
Apply edging, bracing, and strokes specific to current dynamics
Plan for and manage risk in areas affected by tides, constrictions, or river outflows
This course is ideal for paddlers seeking to expand their coastal kayaking skills into more dynamic environments. Instruction will include group management strategies, rescue techniques in current, and trip planning considerations related to tides and flow forecasts.
This course is typically $100 per day. SMSKN is subsidising 30% and Rock Paddle Surf is offering 20%. Participants pay $50 directly thru Rock Paddle Surf. Click link below and use code
