Peer-to-Peer Skills Series: Bracing and Balance

For this session of our weekly practice series, we plan to practice the high brace, low brace, sculling techniques, and work on the balance it takes to make those strokes more effective less necessary.

These sessions are being coordinated by various folks from the Skill Building Team at SMSKN, with this one coordinated by Tom Allen and Steve Johnson, members of the Skill Building Team at SMSKN, but participants are encouraged to share their own knowledge and experience with other paddlers so that we all learn from and support each another.

  • Trip level: Beginner (Level 1) and above
  • Bring: sea-worthy kayak with attachable spray deck, kayak must float when swamped, PFD, immersion clothing appropriate for water temperatures.
  • Be ready to paddle at 4:00 PM, we will have some discussion before hand to practice techniques prior to getting in the water.
  • Please check weather and tide conditions before arriving so that you can prepare appropriately.
